We Are Sharing a Post by the Museum of Prigorje
On Friday, 8th of May, the Museum of Prigorje and the art organization Otvoreni likovni pogon hosted the second meeting of Sesvete residents, high school students, former Sljeme factory workers, and members of the Sljeme for All initiative. Artist Sanja Bistričić Srića, invited to develop a proposal for the commissioned artwork, attended the meeting for the first time and followed the discussion on visions for the future of this space.
The lateral thinking workshop was led by Valentina Gulin Zrnić, PhD, from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research, who heads the project What Cities Do We Want? Contemporary Transformations of Urban Visions, Practices and Ethics (www.citymaking.eu). Lateral thinking encompasses a range of techniques aimed at generating creative, innovative, and original solutions – thinking beyond conventional frameworks. During this workshop, we explored ideas for the artwork within the Sljeme complex, reflecting on the significance of that space for local residents (in the history, today, and for the future), which the artwork might embody.
The discussion gave rise to versatile and imaginative ideas for the future of the former factory space: from a Michelin-starred vegan restaurant and a space where humans and animals live in harmony, to an adventure park and a hydroelectric power plant. The older Sljeme workers envisioned a sort of elixir of youth on the site of the former factory, while the younger participants identified melancholy and nostalgia as the emotions that affect their relationship with the place the strongest.
Artist Sanja Bistričić Srića took all of these ideas and emotions from the meeting and will incorporate them into the development of her proposal for the commissioned artwork, which she will present to the group of patrons.
