On 9 January 2026, Mirna Tkalčić Simetić delivered a lecture at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (University of Zagreb) within the course Urban Anthropology, taught by Valentina Gulin Zrnić. In her lecture, entitled Cities, Disasters, and Futures, she brought into dialogue the theoretical frameworks of the subdisciplines of urban anthropology, the anthropology of the future, and the anthropology of disaster. In the concluding part of the lecture, she illustrated the concepts of future-making as well as the social production and construction of space through an analysis of the affective-material constellations of Petrinja’s city centre during the first two years following the devastating earthquake (29 December 2020).
