In the frame of the 17th Annual Conference of the Romanian Association for Ethnology Studies, Nevena Škrbić Alempijević delivered an invited plenary lecture entitled “Public Space and Social Distancing: New Contexts and Challenges for Urban Research“. The conference was held under the title “Doing fieldwork in times of crisis” on November 24-26, 2021 via a virtual platform.

The author deals with ways in which researchers can explore social interaction in times of social distancing. She focuses on transformations of ethnological research and fieldwork caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, she points to the relevance of ethnological and anthropological research in times of crisis, because the pandemic is not only a medical or biotechnological issue, but also a sociocultural one.
