POST-EARTHQUAKE CITIES GOVERNANCE POLICIES AND CIVIC PARTICIPATION

The course of the reconstruction process of cities affected by the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquakes in 2020 reflects a series of factors, primarily the complex interplay of local, regional, national, and supranational levels of post-earthquake management. The legal framework established by the Law on Reconstruction and various sources of funding has resulted in administrative congestion, negatively affecting the quality of daily life and the speed and efficiency of building reconstruction process. The aim of this roundtable is to bring together political, civil, and expert actors from the cities of Zagreb and Petrinja to present the challenges they face within this process and to attempt to find modalities for more successful forms of mutual cooperation and communication in current and future disasters and crises of various kinds.
